Name: MacaroNight
Program: Horizon 2020
Duration: 2018 – 2021 - About the project
MacaroNight is a Marie Curie Researchers’ Night project coordinated by La Palma Research S.L. for the years 2018-2019. The Consortium formed by La Palma Research, University of Las Palmas, University of Madeira, Regional Fund for Science and Technology of the Azores, the Astrophysical Institute of the Canary Islands and University of La Laguna aims to bring the science in Macaronesia together for a night to show the public we share a common research identity, with common challenges and assets appealing to the new generations of Macaronesian researchers to develop a career in sciences.
In 2018, the project united our exceptional islands in a joint and simultaneous event where 166 researchers and around 6000 people had the chance to meet and connect under the theme “Science in Heritage”.
On the 27th of September of 2019, Cape Verde will join the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Madeira and Ponta Delgada thus covering the whole region presenting the “Future of Science in the Macaronesia”.
- Our role in the project
MacaroNight is coordinated by La Palma Research SL, managing activities for the Night in four islands in two countries. The project received funding from the H2020 Programme of the European Commission as a Marie Curie Researchers Night action. The project reaches to Macaronesian researchers, either living in the outermost regions of Spain and Portugal or born there and living and working abroad to show the day-to-day life of researchers and the opportunities for young people in the islands to take up on science careers.
